Labyrinthine Sentence
“Ode to Jade”
When the time comes, Lord, help me to be so brave.
Oh, Jade, our Jadey, dignified lady, silky black-faced German Shepherd Girl, you knew you had to leave us but we wouldn’t let you go because even though you had to drag your useless legs behind you, you still wagged your tail and spoke your love through shining eyes, so how could we ever put an end to you when you were still ALIVE, but you understood our agony and waited oh so patiently, until the day we finally heard you and carried you to the back yard and lay you in your long grass and lay down beside you to wait for the truck to roll up the driveway at 6pm exactly, the first unknown vehicle you didn’t bark at, because your job on earth was finished, and when the doctor stood beside you, still you didn’t bark - all your work was done - so instead you raised your noble head and licked this strange man’s hand and told us, “Thank you, My Dear Ones. Thank you. Goodbye.”
